Lest We Forget!

Tonight, I listened to the radio in the car and thus came, by pure chance, across a brief feature commemorating the 60th anniversary of the founding of CARE today. CARE helped many Germans survive or out of bitter starvation, American families paid for it. Of course, the little feature had to mention that the CARE parcels were originally meant as supply for the American troops in the Pacific, but not needed anymore because the Americans had "destroyed" Hiroshima and Nagasaki and thus shortened the war. German media never miss an opportunity for an anti-American sly little dig. (For my German readers: The station was WDR2!)

Germans will never forgive America for liberating them from the Nazis and even less that they, the Americans, were gracious in victory.

It is a sad quirk of human nature that it, more often than not, bears grudges against those it owes instead of being grateful.

However, THANK YOU AMERICA!
