self-conscious knickers-in-a-knot public outrage

By now, Iranian President Ahmadinejad's demented rants about Israel ("should be relocated to Austria or Germany" respectively "wiped off the map") or the Holocaust ("never happened") are well known. Yes, that's right, the same Iran Angelika Beer, German Greens MEP, called a 'fascinating country with a young well-educated society'.

Merkel : Iranian president's remarks are 'unacceptable'

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's suggestion that Israel should be relocated to Austria or Germany was "totally unacceptable".

"The remarks of the Iranian president are totally unacceptable, and as chancellor of Germany, which has a historical responsibility in this regard, I reject them with the greatest firmness," she said during a meeting with French President Jacques Chirac.

Oh yeah? Good thing I didn't have my breakfast yet when I first read that! And if the Germans had NOT murdered 6 million Jews it would have been alright what that loose cannon with a beard had said? Gosh, aren't those Jews lucky!

Israel, this light unto the nations, is the only country that has to justify its existence, in spite, or maybe BECAUSE OF all the self-conscious knickers-in-a-knot public outrage.
