According to Koschny's [head of the crime fighting unit at Berlin's Polizeidirektion 5] plans, the police will ask about their religious background as well and find out what mosque the parents attend for prayer. Those information will then be passed on to the imams and prayer leaders who are then supposed to influence the delinquents and there parents to explain to them that crimes are not compliant with Islam.I bet they do!
Also, Muslim youths who were sentenced to perform social work for charities affiliated to one of the churches but rather for the mosque communities. Thus, the prayer leader or imam will be able to exercise a long-term positive influence on the youths.
The Muslim organisations are said to meet the plans with decisive approval, Koschny says.
That way they get a free delivery of gifted amateurs who will soon learn to make better use of their talents than to grab mobile phones or designer rags from their shell-shocked classmates.
In English it's called "to put the fox in charge of the henhouse", but I like the German equivalent better, which calls this strange phenomenon of self-hate "to give the billy goat a gardener's job".

The news is very strange these days.
Let's see, we are having a disproportionate amount of trouble with one group of people within our community. That group of people also is disproportionately religious. Many of the problems we have with that group of people come directly from a radicalized version of their religion which preaches violence against our community.
Hey, I've got an idea, let's solve all our problems by turning over criminals to the religious authorities.
It took a while, but now there's a large mosque that's been built and is operating across the street from my elementary school... in Manhattan, NYC!
So what else is new?
